Washington licensing rules
- Reciprocity
- For land surveyors: comity applicants must be in good standing with a licensing agency in another state, territory, possession, district, or foreign country and must meet the qualification requirements of chapter 18.43 RCW; they are not required to take the fundamentals-of-land-surveying and full principles-and-practice exams, but must pass an exam on Washington-specific land surveying issues plus law and ethics (WAC 196-16-031). For engineers: an applicant licensed at least 10 years in another board-recognized jurisdiction, with an active license in good standing in a recognized branch, can get the Fundamentals of Engineering exam waived, but must still pass Washington's engineer law review exam and the PE examination (WAC 196-12-010).
