Acceptance
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of EngineeringID (the "Service"), operated by EngineeringID. By accessing or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, don't use the Service.
These Terms are a binding contract. Read them. We've tried to be clear; where we couldn't be brief, we chose to be accurate.
The Service
EngineeringID provides a credential management and document sealing service for licensed professionals across engineering, architecture, law, medicine, accounting, surveying, and related disciplines. The Service includes credential verification against public licensing board registries, cryptographic document sealing, audit logging, and public verification portals.
We may add, change, or remove features over time. Material reductions in functionality for paid tiers will be communicated with at least 30 days' notice.
Your Account
- You must be at least 18 years old and hold a valid professional license to seal documents.
- You must provide accurate registration information and keep your credentials current.
- You must not share your account or impersonate another professional.
- You must enable multi-factor authentication for any account that issues seals. Sealing additionally requires a fresh second-factor check (a TOTP code or one-time backup code) at signing time; subsequent seals within a 10-minute window pass through without re-prompting.
- You must notify us immediately at [email protected] of any unauthorized access.
Your Content
You retain all rights to documents, drawings, reports, filings, and other content you upload ("Your Content"). By using the Service, you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license solely to host, process, display, and transmit Your Content as necessary to provide the Service and preserve audit integrity.
We do not train machine learning models on Your Content. We do not sell or license Your Content to third parties. Sealed documents are made publicly verifiable by design — a verifier who presents a valid verification code can confirm integrity, authorship, and effective date, but cannot access the underlying document content unless you share it.
Credentials & Sealing
When you apply a seal to a document, you are making a legal attestation under your professional license. You are solely responsible for the accuracy, completeness, and regulatory compliance of the underlying work. EngineeringID does not review, approve, certify, or endorse the technical content of any document.
Seals are cryptographic assertions bound to your verified credentials at the time of sealing. Revocation of a license after sealing does not invalidate past seals — the audit chain preserves history as it existed. Subsequent changes to licensing status are reflected in public verification metadata.
Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- Seal documents requiring a license you don't hold or that has been revoked.
- Upload content that is illegal, defamatory, infringing, or sexually exploitative.
- Circumvent authentication, rate limits, tenancy isolation, or cryptographic controls.
- Scrape, crawl, or enumerate the directory without our express written consent.
- Interfere with the Service, its availability, or other users' ability to use it.
- Use the Service to build a competitive product or train ML models on our data.
- Misrepresent your identity, license status, or affiliation.
Fees & Billing
- Current pricing is listed at the pricing page.
- Paid plans are billed monthly or annually in advance. Fees are charged via Stripe.
- We may change pricing on 30 days' notice; existing annual plans keep their rate through renewal.
- We do not offer refunds on annual plans except as required by law.
- You're responsible for applicable taxes unless you've provided a valid exemption certificate.
- Failed payments: we will attempt to recover failed payments per industry-standard retry schedules and notify you before service interruption.
Intellectual Property
EngineeringID and EngineeringID, including all software, design, APIs, and documentation, are and remain our property. We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the Service in accordance with these Terms.
The Service incorporates open-source components subject to their respective licenses. A current list is available on request.
Warranties & Disclaimers
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, OR NON-INFRINGEMENT. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of harmful components.
Enterprise customers receive a written contract addendum with specific commitments.
Limitation of Liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, IN NO EVENT WILL EITHER PARTY BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, REVENUE, OR DATA, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO THESE TERMS OR THE SERVICE, WHETHER BASED ON CONTRACT, TORT, STRICT LIABILITY, OR ANY OTHER LEGAL THEORY.
Our total cumulative liability is limited to the greater of (a) $1,000 USD or (b) the fees you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim. Some jurisdictions don't allow these limits; in those places, our liability is limited to the smallest amount permitted by law.
Indemnification
You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless EngineeringID and its affiliates from any third-party claim arising from (a) Your Content, (b) your breach of these Terms, or (c) your violation of applicable law or the rights of a third party. We'll notify you promptly of any such claim and cooperate in the defense.
Termination
Contact [email protected] to terminate your account. We may terminate or suspend your account for material breach of these Terms, non-payment, or conduct that poses a risk to the platform or other users, with reasonable notice where practical.
Data is retained for 30 days post-termination subject to legal hold and applicable retention rules in our Privacy Notice. Sealed documents and audit chains are retained as required for professional record compliance, and verification remains publicly available for the audit period.
Disputes & Arbitration
Before filing a formal claim, the parties will attempt to resolve any dispute through good-faith negotiation for 30 days. If unresolved, claims will be resolved by binding arbitration administered by JAMS under its Streamlined Arbitration Rules in Wilmington, Delaware, unless both parties agree to another forum.
Opt-out: within 30 days of creating your account, you may opt out of this arbitration clause by emailing [email protected] with your account email and the subject line "Arbitration Opt-Out." Small-claims court is always available as an alternative.
